Bus width has nothing to do with CPU addressing bits. My Sun UltraSPARC f.e. is true 64-bit machine thus having PCI 32-bit/33MHz expansion slots. The same statement is true for your case: most (if not all) of Athlon64 based mobos have only 32-bit/33MHz PCI bus (single). So 132 MBps PCI wire speed (t...

Re: Performance Questions

First of all GbE cannot pump more then 117 MB/sec for completely loaded data pipe. Thus it does not matter how fast your local drive is: you'll never seen more then 110-115 MB/sec going into the same direction. Second how fast is your GbE card itself? Can you run NTttcp & IPerf? B/s if it's PCI ...

Re: Windows 2003 Cluster and Starwind Errors

That's (commonly used scenario to build a cluster) what we're trying to do right now... Using user's feedback.

Do you have a procedure to build a cluster solution using Starwind as the SAN source which is known to work as I can start from of clean slate if need be.

Re: Windows 2003 Cluster and Starwind Errors

Also make sure you're creating BASIC disks (dynamic disks are not reactivated automatically till the next initiator release). I am trying to build a MS Cluster and cannot get past he first node creation. It keeps failing to bring the drives online. Cluster Machine windows 2003 Adv Server Starwind Ta...

UNH for Linux works fine, Intel has some issues but we'll have a workaround soon. I'd recommend using UNH for Linux and either StarPort (our own iSCSI initiator) for Windows or MS one. However StarPort should be faster. Hi, what di you mean by "soon" ?? is it not possible at the moment ?? ...

Yes. Intel iSCSI initiator would be also working soon :)

Is UNH a good sollution ?

Re: Multiple sessions on an image file

If under "multiple sessions" you mean volume snapshot and rollback facility -- these features are planned for some next update. Not next one, however... Hi All, Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have multiple sessions on an image file?? If so, what is the syntax or procedure to do so...

What's version of both softwar titles (StarPort and StarWind) you're running? Before we'll proceed would you please make sure they are the latest ones downloaded from this site (2.4.0). Thanks!

Really sorry for this! But you was warned. Currenlty we're looking for distributed file system vendor to coopeate with. But no luck so far... Sorry again. Do you think we should *BLOCK* this "feature"? If you will try to use such a configuration you will get corrupted file system. *g* got ...

Re: Clustering and microsoft iSCSI initiator

1. Yes, MS iSCSI initiator (just as any other iSCSI initiator talking iSCSI draft 20 aka iSCSI 1.0 from *ANY* operating system) is fully supported. However we do recommend to use our free StarPort as iSCSI initiator just b/s the performance would be more adequate with our software. 2. There is nothi...

Re: Thanks for the info!

Thank you for compliments :) We're definitely doing our best... Diskless boot and operations are quite important for now and would be very hot after GbE would come to mainstream and 10 GbE would come to servers. However I think we need to cooperate with some network cards verndors to provide real mo...

Re: Param 'OFMarkInt' has invalid type error in log file

While Alex would be helping you to sort out this issue (of course MS iSCSI initiator should work!) would you please be so kind to: 1) tell us version of MS iSCSI initiator you're using and what type of target did you configure StarWind to run. 2) Try to work with our own iSCSI initiator called StarP...

Re: Can StarWind/StartPort be used for diskless machines?

Hi, for now -- partially. StarWind can of course be used together with hardware iSCSI initiators to provide boot from iSCSI volumes (it's out of our business what data you do keep on our virtualization software). But StarPort for now cannot be used to boot remotely w/o hard disk. Actual Windows part...

Re: Follow up

Dave, just to clarify... You're creating RAM disk with StarWind and trying to connect to it remotely? Can you try to create RAM disk with StarPort *ON THE SAME MACHINE* and check out how much RAM would it be able to grab? Thanks! Still cannot get a RAM Disk of more than 1024MB now... Something worth...
