How is NVMe-oF Doing? Part 4: “Who’s the fastest hand in the West”?

There was a race to bring NVMe-oF to Windows some time ago. Many tried, but I know that only StarWind and Chelsio succeeded so far. Now, it’s time to see who won this race! It is the fourth part of my NVMe-oF Initiators’ performance study. Before, I tested NVMe-oF initiators developed by Linux, Chelsio and StarWind. Here, the battle ends: which NVMe-oF initiator delivers the highest performance and which one Windows admins should use

How is NVMe-oF doing? Part 3: StarWind NVMe-oF Initiator + Linux SPDK NVMe-oF Target

Finally, I got the hands-on experience with StarWind NVMe-oF Initiator. I read that StarWind did a lot of work to bring NVMe-oF to Windows (it’s basically the first solution of its kind), so it’s quite interesting for me to see how their initiator works! In today’s post, I measure the performance of NVMe drive presented over Linux SPDK NVMe-oF Target while talking to it over StarWind NVMe-oF Initiator.

How is NVMe-oF doing? Part 2: Chelsio NVMe-oF Initiator + Linux SPDK NVMe-oF Target

While some OS-s built on Linux kernel support NVMe-oF, Windows just does not. No worries, there are some ways to bring this protocol to a Windows environment! In this article, I investigate whether presenting an NVMe drive over RDMA with Linux SPDK NVMe-oF Target + Chelsio NVMe-oF Initiator provides you the perfomance that vendors of flash list in their datasheets.

Linux NVMe-oF Initiator and StarWind NVMe-oF Initiator: Performance Comparison Part 2

NVMe is the latest storage novelty that leaves legacy stuff behind. We’ve already proved that both Linux open source and StarWind NVMe-oF Initiator for Windows can deliver 100% of the back-end NVMe performance to the consumer when run over RDMA networks. Time to see how fast they will work over TCP.

Real-World Production Scenario: Squeezing all possible performance out of Microsoft SQL Server AGs (Availability Groups). Local NVMe Vs. RDMA-mapped (NVMe-oF) remote NVMe storage. Does the juice worth a squeeze?

The NVMe-oF is the hottest network storage trend so far. Up to now Microsoft Windows users had no access this tech due to lack of the NVMe-oF initiator for Windows. StarWind brough NVMe-oF to Widnows! Let’s see how NVMe-oF plays with Microsoft SQL Server AGs (Availability Groups) on Windows Server in the real life scenario.

Linux NVMe-oF Initiator and StarWind NVMe-oF Initiator: Performance Comparison Part 1

NVMe-oF is the modern appropriate protocol for getting the most out of NVMe drives, the fastest storage medium to date. Linux users have long been enjoying NVMe-oF, but Microsoft users have been left out. Now, StarWind has brought the power of NVMe-oF to Windows users by means of a lightweight 100% software solution.
