Introduction

At VMware Explore 2022, the company, for the first time in years, has announced a lot of new promising projects, including the rebranding of already existing solutions. Today, let’s talk about the new product line VMware Aria (formerly known as vRealize Cloud Management), which gathers all tools for managing apps and virtual data centers that VMware has at its disposal, both cloud and on-premises.

Essentially, VMware Aria is a product portfolio that has been recently announced at the Explore 2022, uniting solutions to manage expenses, performance, configuration, and delivery of cloud-native apps to a virtual data center. It came to inherit the legacy of multiple vRealize solutions, in addition to several other products, subscriptions, and functionality of the solutions that have already existed.

What is It?

Within this product line, the customers will have access to the following solutions:

  • VMware Aria Automation (previously known as vRealize Automation) is a solution designed to automate and orchestrate routine operations for on-premise virtual data centers and clouds based on VMware vSphere. The new version of Aria Automation 8.9 is already available to customers since July.

VMware Aria Automation

  • VMware Aria Operations (previously a part of vRealize Operations) is a platform for complex management and monitoring of virtual infrastructure in the cloud on various levels. The latest version of this solution, namely Aria Operations 8.10, was scheduled for release simultaneously with the announcement of Aria.

vRealize Operations

  • VMware Aria Cost (previously CloudHealth) is a tool to receive information about the availability and general state of all the cloud resources from any vendor under one admin console. You can monitor and analyze virtually anything, including IaaS, containerized apps deployments, and VMware vSphere on-premises infrastructure. The information is targeted to deal with finances, operational monitoring, and overviewing security and compliance status.

CloudHealth

  • VMware Aria Operations for Secure Clouds (previously CloudHealth Secure State) is a solution for monitoring cloud security (AWS support is available from the beginning), finding anomalies, and threat correlation detection based on CloudHealth Secure State. The free version of this product is already available for VMware Cloud on AWS customers.

CloudHealth Secure State

  • VMware Aria Operations for Networks (previously vRealize Network Insight) is a tool for monitoring and protecting the network infrastructure of a virtual environment of the data center at the application level, both on-premises and cloud.

vRealize Network Insight

  • VMware Aria Operations for Logs (previously vRealize Log Insight) is a platform for log-file analysis, monitoring, and solving infrastructure problems in the cloud.

Apart from the solutions you are already familiar with, VMware is going to include a few more novel products and technologies, as presented below:

VMware is going to include a few more novel products and technologies

  • VMware Aria Guardrails (previously a part of vRealize Automation) is a product to standardize approaches for securing public clouds and intercloud communications in terms of network communication, protection of the workload, price, and performance, including configuration process as everything-as-code.

Cloud Environments

  • VMware Aria Migration is a solution for intercloud migration in the clouds from different vendors and on-premises infrastructures which selects the most optimal disposition of workloads according to the organization’s requirements for performance, maintenance cost, and security.

VMware Aria Migration

This solution divides the workload migration into three stages:

  1. Assessment as identification of network communication between applications and detection of services, application tiers, and the workloads themselves in VMs and physical hosts that represent an application for a user.
  2. Planning migration process using Machine Learning algorithms to define the complexity of the processes and interconnection of components. This stage is also responsible for defining the workload policies to guarantee compliance while migrating.
  3. Migration itself implies automizing workload migration waves using vRealize Network Insight Toolkit and VMware HCX components.

Migration Wave Planning

  • VMware Aria Hub (previously Project Ensemble) is a solution for multicloud infrastructures that might have been built based on a combination of various private and public clouds, wherein the users will require a unified and customized application-oriented interface. Through the analysis of user experience with applications provided by Aria Hub and Machine Learning algorithms, you will be able to receive recommendations on optimizing the workflows with those cloud apps that are dependent on hardware and software support optimization.

VMware Aria Hub

  • VMware Aria Business Insights is a functionality of the VMware Aria Hub project designed to provide users with the possibility of managing events in the cloud that applies AI/ML algorithms to detect patterns in the behavior of applications and infrastructure. This may provide business insights that help in the development of the IT part of business within your organization.

VMware Aria Business Insights

Last but not least, VMware Aria Graph is a novel technology that is based on the API-first approach. It enables DevOps и ITOps employees to get access to graphical interactive consolidated representation of applications in the different clouds, built through public API. The visualization itself is available via the Aria Hub solution that has been already mentioned.
