CHALLENGE

Before deploying StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), the Society of St James had a diverse IT infrastructure comprising 7 physical tower servers with domain, storage, and SQL. Despite having access to local NAS devices and other storage servers within the head office network, managing backups and data across various devices proved arduous. Unused space and resources led to inefficiencies and incurred costs without commensurate benefits.

The existing setup lacked cohesion and scalability, necessitating a solution that could streamline operations while maximizing resource utilization.

Thanks to StarWind we could re-use IT resources without buying any additional devices or servers. It simplified the whole infrastructure, made backup easier and services more reliable. StarWind saved lots of money for the charity.

SOLUTION

Implementing StarWind VSAN involved integrating all offices via an MPLS network, facilitating seamless resource access and file sharing. This encompassed establishing a highly available (HA) Hyper-V cluster in the head office, repurposing existing servers and leveraging cloud infrastructure for scalability.

StarWind‘s software-defined approach enabled efficient resource utilization without additional hardware costs. Simplifying the infrastructure, StarWind made backups more manageable and enhanced overall reliability. Presently, the organization operates all essential services from a single HA cluster, optimizing efficiency and reducing expenses.
