CHALLENGE

Before StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN) deployment, U-Link College had been using two Hyper-V hosts to host its virtual machines (VMs) but experienced a significant outage when one of the hosts failed due to hardware issues.

It took considerable time and effort to move all the important VMs to the remaining host, causing a disruption in its operations. Moreover, the college had to build a highly available (HA) infrastructure with a limited budget, which posed a significant challenge.

No other solution supports the 2-node hyperconverged scenario as well as StarWind. It has been working flawlessly and satisfies our requirements perfectly.

SOLUTION

To overcome these challenges, U-Link College decided to implement a 2-node hyperconverged Hyper-V cluster with StarWind VSAN. This allowed it to build an HA infrastructure that was affordable, ensuring that its operations were not disrupted in the event of a hardware failure.

The implementation of StarWind VSAN enabled ULink College to save at least the cost of a single node, which is around $20,000. This was a significant cost savings for the college, as most other solutions require at least 3 nodes to meet its requirements.

By using StarWind, the college was able to achieve the same level of availability with just two nodes.
