CHALLENGE

Prior to StarWind Virtual SAN (vSAN) deployment, Cygnus, Inc. was operating within an IT infrastructure that consisted of a Microsoft Windows Active Directory (AD) environment running on eight discrete servers. The company relied on the Hyper-V hypervisor to manage its virtualization needs.

However, a significant challenge arose when a recent server failure exposed the fragility of its disaster recovery (DR) solution. The existing infrastructure required a robust solution to ensure uninterrupted operations and improved resilience.

By being able to virtualize our environment with StarWind, we were able to retire some old hardware, get our services highly available, reduce power consumption and heat in our server closet.

SOLUTION

By virtualizing its environment with StarWind vSAN, Cygnus, Inc. was able to retire outdated hardware and introduce high availability with failover capabilities for its users. This shift not only improved the stability of its IT environment but also led to a reduction in power consumption and heat generation in its server closet. StarWind’s solution played a pivotal role in rectifying the DR shortcomings that had previously posed a threat to business continuity.

Currently operating with a two-node cluster, Cygnus, Inc. envisions further expansion. It plans to add a third node to the cluster if the need arises for additional computational power.
